NASİM’İN YOLCULUĞU (THE JOURNEY OF NASIM) (2016)

The book is the product of the social entrepreneurship project that we managed in Istanbul, Turkey for the advancement of Syrian refugee children’s psychological health by using art therapy, and an illustrated storybook which I illustrated. Our story book was also translated into Arabic language and comprises motifs and symbols that are familiar to Syrian refugee children.

From the back cover: “Nasim and his astronaut friend, Muhammed Faris, aim to bring only some drops of water to their endangered world. Will their adventurous journey succeed?”

BAD CAT CANNIBAL IN MUMBAI (2015)

Bad Cat Cannibal is the reason that I began to draw caricatures. He is my childhood friend, and now he is grown up like I am. In this comic book, which is the third comic book of Cannibal, I reflected my experiences, observations and feelings that I had during our social entrepreneurship project in Mumbai, India in August 2015. His story has traces of my story.

In 2015, I reflected on my fieldwork experience in the Dharavi slum in Mumbai, India in a comic book through the eyes of a fictional character I created when I was eleven (Bad Cat Cannibal). This visual auto-ethnographic project involved comics, with my own drawings, cover, and layout design, where I narrate my experiences of conducting a social impact project alongside a team of ten peers from my university in Istanbul, Turkey. The project aimed to promote water hygiene and sanitation for the residents of Dharavi. I drew the comics by hand, scanned and published a few copies, and created a digital copy.

From the back cover: “Bad Cat Cannibal, while being a good lawyer in one of the most well-known law offices in New York City and living in a penthouse with an enormous luxury, finds himself in the second most populated city of India as a volunteer in the slums.”
